EU Deforestation Regulation
Covered products can only be placed on the EU market or exported from it if they are deforestation-free (no deforestation after 31 December 2020), legally produced and covered by a due diligence statement.
Application dates have been postponed more than once and differ by company size. Check the European Commission's current guidance.
Who it affects
Operators and traders placing covered products on the EU market or exporting them, and in practice, every supplier upstream of them.
What it requires
- Geolocation of every plot of land where the commodity was produced (polygons for plots over 4 hectares)
- A risk assessment covering deforestation, legality and supply chain complexity
- Risk mitigation until the remaining risk is negligible
- A due diligence statement submitted to the EU information system
How POINT helps
POINT captures this evidence in the field and keeps it linked through every handoff, so it's ready to share when a buyer, auditor or authority asks.
- Geolocation of every plot (polygons over 4 ha)
- Deforestation screening against forest baselines
- Evidence of legal production
- Data for the operator's due diligence statement
