Cocoa traceability · Africa · National system

Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana cocoa traceability

Both countries run national traceability systems that register farmers and farms and track cocoa through the domestic chain, partly so that exports can meet EU deforestation rules.

Requirements are set nationally and evolve. Confirm current rules with the relevant authority.

Who it affects

Cocoa farmers, cooperatives, licensed buyers and exporters.

What it requires

  • Farmer and farm registration
  • Recorded purchases and transfers through licensed buyers
  • Records that link to national identifiers
